The table above shows a few particularities about the coagulation factors. It is interesting to note that factors II, VII, IX, X, and the Protein C are vitamin K dependent coagulation factors. The liver is the source of most coagulation factors. Only factors III, IV, VIII and the von Willebrand factor are not produced in the liver. Factor III is produced in the subendothelium and factor is produced by the reticuloendothelial system (RES). The roman numbers represent 12 of about 20 factors involved in the coagulation cascade.
Factor III is also called tissue thromboplastin or tissue factor. Factor IV is the ion calcium and is the only factor that is not a protein. Factor V (proaccelerin) is also known as labile factor or plasma accelerator globulin. There is not a known Factor VI.
